Past Continuous Tense in Hindi
इस Tense के वाक्यों मे काम का जारी रहना भूतकाल मे पाया जाता है । ऐसे वाक्यों के अन्त मे ‘रहा था’ ,’रही थी’ , ‘रहे थे’ आते हैं ।
Structure - Subject + was/were + Verb + ing + Object
(a) Affirmative Sentences
Rule 1: He, she, it और एकवचन noun subject के साथ was लगाकर verb की first form के अन्त में ing लगाते हैं । (देखिए उदाहरण 1, 5 )
Rule 2: You, we, they और बहुवचन noun subject के साथ were लगाकर verb की first form के अन्त में ing लगाते हैं । (देखिए उदाहरण 2,3,4 )
Examples:
1. मैं अपनी किताब पढ़ रहा था ।
I was reading my book.
2. वे फुटबॉल खेल रहे थे ।
They were playing football.
3. हम अपना पाठ याद कर रहे थे ।
We were learning our lesson.
4. तुम मेरे नौकर को बुला रहे थे ।
You were calling my servant.
5. वह एक मधुर गाना गा रही थी ।
She was singing a sweet song.
(b) Negative Sentences
Structure - Subject + was/were + not + Verb + ing + Object
Rule 1: Negative sentences मे was या were के बाद not लगाते हैं।
Examples:
1. मैं मुम्बई नहीं जा रहा था ।
I was not going to Mumbai.
2. वह अपनी गुड़िया से नहीं खेल रही थी ।
She was not playing with her doll.
3. गाय घास नहीं चर रही थी ।
The cow was not grazing grass.
4. वे बाज़ार नहीं जा रहे थे ।
They were not going to market.
(c) Interrogative Sentences
Structure - Was/were + Subject + Verb + ing + Object ?
Rule 1: अगर वाक्य मे ‘क्या’ लगा हो तो was या were को कर्ता (Subject) से पहले लगाते हैं और 1st Form of Verb में ing लगाते हैं ।

Rule 2: अगर वाक्य के बीच में ‘कब'(when),’क्यों'(why), ‘क्या'(what), ‘कहाँ'(where) आदि प्रशनवाचक शब्द हो तो सबसे पहले इनकी अंग्रेजी , फिर was या were, फिर कर्ता और फिर verb की 1st form में ing लगाते है । (देखिए उदाहरण 6, 7)
Rule 3: how much, how many, which, whose आदि के साथ उनसे सम्बंधित nouns भी आते हैं । (देखिए उदाहरण 5)
Rule 4: अगर वाक्य मे कोई प्रशनवाचक शब्द who ही कर्ता का कार्य कर रहा हो, तो पहले उसकी अंग्रेजी, फिर was या were लगाते है । (देखिए उदाहरण 8)
Rule 5: Interrogative negative वाक्य Interrogative sentences की तरह बनाते है । केवल कर्ता के बाद not और लगा देते हैं । (देखिए उदाहरण 3, 6)
Rule 6: वाक्य के अंत मे प्रशनसूचक चिन्ह (?) अवश्य लगाते है।
Examples:
1. क्या हम बाज़ार जा रहे थे?
Were we going to the market?
2. क्या मोहन अपने नौकर को गाली दे रहा था ।
Was Mohan abusing his servant?
3. क्या वे लड़के शोर नहीं मचा रहे थे?
Were those boys not making a noise?
4. क्या मैं तुम्हारे साथ नहीं जा रहा था?
Was I not going with you?
5. कितने लड़के मैदान में खेल रहे थे?
How many boys were playing in the field?
6. किसान अपना खेत क्यों नहीं जॊत रहा था?
Why was the farmer not ploughing his field?
7. वह कमरे में क्या कर रहा था?
What was he doing in the room?
8. कक्षा में कौन रो रहा था?
Who was weeping in the class?
